Rhoda is hoping for a change. Both her daughters, Etty and Natalie, lead busy lives, whilst Rhoda feels her days are filled with dull routine and compromise. As far as her husband Alec is concerned, his wife's place is in the home. When Rhoda takes up a job in the nearby village of Oakleigh, Alec is furious that his wife wants to work.
